SearchEthos : rethinking search on the internet & SEO practices

best practices for search usability and SEO

Apologies! This page hasn't been updated in a long time due to a combination of illness and various project deadlines. However, I can say the most interesting items I'm following is the Google purchase of Applied Semantics and the possibility that Google may drop Premium Listings. No need to panic as the current estimated timeframe on this to happen is roughly six months (plenty of time to strategize a move to doing well on their AdWords program). And remember, it's still a rumor.

The other interesting thing I've read recently (although I cannot now remember the source) is someone online commenting on how the need for good memory is lessened by the current availability of being able to double-check certain facts on Google. That comment is both scary and kind of fascinating- and insightful on the impact the Internet has had on our culture.

This Friday, I'm headed off to the WebmasterWorld Conference in Boston- please introduce yourself (if you're attending).

Danny Sullivan addresses Search Privacy Issues at Google and Other Search Engines as well as responds compellingly to allegations made that Google is one of the largest threats to privacy (in a subscribers-only article entitled "Google and the Big Brother Nomination"). His conclusions indicate that currently there is no real reason to believe that Google is abusing the data it gathers and further, that there is no real worry because the data it gathers does not allow it to individually identify a specific user.
